The Shaltari are an ancient, highly developed species. Their technology is advanced to a level of sophistication rivaled only by its potency. They have traversed the stars for millennia, learned myriad truths, and fought countless wars. Through knowledge, the Shaltari transcend even death itself, perceiving the ebb and flow of time like no other race. In battle, the Shaltari are fearsome adversaries. Their swiftness is unmatched, their firepower unequaled, their bravery undeniable. The beauty of their constructs belies their true nature; instruments of death, honed to lethal perfection long before humanity learned to throw stones. They are peerless masters of technology who exploit lesser races for personal gain. Through subjugation they have already brought alien races such as the Pungari under heel and the human race remains a viable option.
Whilst the natural lifespan of a Shaltari is believed to exceed three centuries, the loss of experience and expertise in death was greatly mourned by the early Shaltari. It was through the fear of loss in death that they innovated consciousness transfers. When near mortal death, a subject's psyche is transferred into another physical body. Brain-dead shell bodies are grown especially for this purpose. Through this matter, may Shaltari have lived for millennia, progressing through dozens of bodies. The only side effect is an increasingly acute, pathological fear of death as the eons pass. Having lived for millennia, Elders are terrified of the final death above all things.
Mankind and Shaltari relations stretch back to 2342 in humanity's first years of galactic exploration. Indeed, it was a Shaltari tribe that first made contact, guiding mankind to the Cradle Worlds. Shaltari and humans have made alliances and fought wars with each other for hundreds of years with power struggles a constant issue. Whilst they have a truly unique and impossible-to-replicate language, Shaltari are fluent in all human languages and willingly communicate in a way their lessers can understand. The Shaltari share information sparingly and when UCM forces can intercept some due to the language barrier it's near impossible to understand.
Ground forces are famous for an esoteric assortment of war machines, from towering Behemoths, and the three-legged Warstriders to nimble grav-tanks. All are highly distinctive, encrusted with unknowably complex technological adornments. All Shaltari are equipped with the most advanced weaponry known to man. A central pillar of their strategy revolves around teleportation gates. Troops are deployed, rerouted, and extracted instantaneously, without putting lives at risk during transit. Slippery and hard to track, it is theoretically possible for an entire army to deploy through a single teleportation gate. Due to their stunted physical appearance infantry nearly always deploy in formidable battlesuits such as Braves or Ronins. Yet, any Shaltari who opts to fight unarmored is scorned for the risk of the final death and the risk to knowledge.
Due to the Shaltari's tribal nature, internal waring is a constant threat with ship-on-ship combat a rare but magnificent sight. Such combat has bred highly capable warriors and naval commanders. Each tribe operates its own fleet of starships which when united in a common goal becomes a lethal force. A key part of the protection of Shaltari vessels is a suite of systems designed to make it difficult for an enemy to target lock, ensuring the return fire is inaccurate or impossible. Secondly, vessels implement advanced energy shields that encompass the entire ship in a protective blanket. It would be foolish to assume Shaltari ships are purely defensive vessels as many are equipped with mighty weapons for war. Utilizing Disintegrators, Disruptors, and Particle lances, Shaltari commanders can easily destroy unsuspecting ships with ease.
The Shaltari are an ancient and highly developed species. Their technology is advanced to a level of sophistication rivalled only by its potency. They have traversed the stars for millennia, learned myriad truths, and have fought countless wars.
The alien Shaltari are a race unlike any encountered by humankind. Though short in stature, they are wise beyond anything known. Their technology is so far advanced to be almost indistinguishable from magic, utilising teleportation, gravitic distortion, and even the ability to bypass death.
